Generative AI (GenAI) Usage and Large Language Models (LLMs) Policy
1. Overview :
The BJ-BABS recognizes the growing role of Generative AI (GenAI) tools and Large Language Models (LLMs) (ChatGPT, Bard, and others) in the process of research and publication. In order to safeguard academic integrity, transparency and responsible use, the journal has set out the following policy on the use of GenAI for manuscript writing, peer reviewing and editing.
2. Writers Are Using Artificial Intelligence:
-All authors should disclose the use of GenAI tools in a dedicated ‘AI Use Statement’, presented at the end of the manuscript and before the ‘References’ section if there was a significant use of any AI tools.
- Under no circumstances should GenAI tools be attributed as authors.
- The human authors of a manuscript are solely responsible for the manuscript’s content, originality, and accuracy, even if artificial intelligence is used.
- The authors must refrain from using AI-generated, fabricated or manipulated data, figures or results.
- It is okay to use AI for language polishing and grammar correction, formatting, and the like, but disclose it. Example Disclosure. Some text in this manuscript was developed with the help of ChatGPT (OpenAI, San Francisco, USA), which we used to clarify and improve the grammar. The authors checked and edited everything.
3. Prohibited Uses:
BJ-BABS strictly prohibits the use of GenAI tools for. - One cannot create or modify research data, images, or references. - Copying or paraphrasing already existing academic work without proper citation. - Automation of the responses to peer reviews or writing the review by the reviewers or editor.
4. Editors and Reviewers:
- Editors and peer reviewers shouldn't use GenAI tools to evaluate manuscripts or make decisions.
- Editors and reviewers should keep everything to themselves. In case the content of the unpublished manuscript is knowingly put in a public tool, one is doing it at one’s own risk.
5. Ethical and Legal Responsibility:
Any misuse of GenAI detected will be considered as a breach of publication ethics and will be dealt with according to the journal’s ethical policy, in line with COPE guidelines. - The authors are solely responsible for everything submitted to us, as our work isn’t under AI.
6. Policy Review:
This policy will be reviewed and updated from time to time if there are new developments in publishing standards, capabilities of Artificial Intelligence, and internationally agreed-upon ethical guidelines. For questions or clarifications regarding this policy, authors are encouraged to contact the Editorial Office at: biochemistry.journal@nahrainuniv.edu.iq.
The whole article was allowed only 25 per cent AI tools use.
